Former President Muhammadu Buhari passed away in London on Sunday, July 13th, at 82.

He was known for his military leadership and the War Against Indiscipline between 1983-1985.

He made a historic comeback in 2015, becoming the first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent president.

His two-term presidency (2015-2023) focused on fighting corruption, tackling insecurity, and reviving the economy.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described Buhari as a patriot, soldier, and statesman, highlighting his integrity and dedication to Nigeria’s unity and discipline.

Tinubu ordered national flags to fly at half-staff for seven days and announced full state honors.

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu also praised his commitment and love for his people.

Other tributes came from former military president Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, who called Buhari a deeply spiritual man and a symbol embodying Nigeria’s transition.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo described him as a patriot who tried his best.

WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala expressed shock at his passing, having sent well wishes shortly before.

Vice President Kashim Shettima traveled to London to bring Buhari’s body back, calling his death the biggest loss Nigeria has ever incurred.

Akinwumi Adesina of the AfDB was a recent visitor.

His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, also passed away at 91.

He reigned for 65 years, distinguishing himself as a monarch of foresight and courage who prioritized development and preserved Yoruba culture. His long reign is considered a golden era for Ijebuland.

July 13th, marked the 91st birthday of Nigerian literary icon, Professor Wole Soyinka, a Nobel laureate celebrated for his influential works, human rights advocacy, and impact on African culture.

Also celebrating his 66th birthday today is Prince Nduka Obaigbena, founding Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of THISDAY Media Group and ARISE News Channel, recognized for his transformative role in journalism in Nigeria and globally.

Additionally, Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, participated in a viral dance challenge video with his musician son.

Lastly, two-time Grammy Award-winning singer Tems made history by headlining the FIFA Club World Cup Final Halftime Show, becoming the first African artist to do so.
